Frequently Asked Questions
What does full-service interior design include?
Full-service interior design encompasses every phase of your project from concept to completion. This includes space planning, architectural detailing, material and finish selections, custom cabinetry and millwork design, furniture sourcing, lighting design, art curation, and styling. We coordinate directly with your architect, builder, and all trades on your behalf, managing the process so you don't have to.
What are the benefits of hiring a full-service interior designer?
A full-service designer saves you significant time, prevents costly mistakes, and delivers a result that is cohesive, intentional, and tailored to how you live. We bring access to trade-only resources, manage complex timelines and budgets, and serve as your advocate with contractors and vendors throughout the entire project. The result is a home that looks beautiful, functions seamlessly, and reflects your personal style.
Do you take on projects that are not full-service?
Our practice is built around the full-service model because we believe it delivers the best results for our clients. However, we do offer furnishings and decorating services for clients who have completed construction and are ready to bring their spaces to life with furniture, lighting, accessories, and art. During our initial consultation, we'll discuss your project scope and determine the best approach together.
Do you work with clients outside the Philadelphia area?
While our studio is based in the Philadelphia area and the majority of our projects are located throughout the Philadelphia Main Line, Bucks County, and the Jersey Shore, we are open to working with clients in other regions. We have the systems and relationships in place to manage projects remotely when needed. Reach out and let's discuss your project location during a consultation.
How long does a typical interior design project take?
Timelines vary depending on the scope and complexity of the project. A furnishings-focused project may take three to six months, while a full-service new construction or whole-home renovation typically spans twelve to twenty-four months or more. During our initial consultation, we'll provide a realistic timeline tailored to your specific project and goals.
What is aging-in-place design?
Aging-in-place design is the practice of creating or modifying a home so that you can live safely, independently, and comfortably as your needs change over time. This includes features like zero-threshold showers, wider doorways, improved lighting, first-floor living conversions, and smart home technology, all integrated seamlessly so your home remains beautiful, not institutional. Learn more on our aging-in-place design page.
Can aging-in-place modifications be beautiful?
Absolutely. This is one of our core specialties. Grab bars that look like luxury hardware, curbless showers that feel spa-like, and wider doorways that read as grand rather than clinical. As a CAPS-certified designer with a background in Occupational Therapy, Christie designs accessibility features that are visually invisible, your guests will never notice them, they'll just see a beautiful home. Visit our aging-in-place page for details on our approach.
What is a CAPS certification, and how does it benefit my project?
CAPS stands for Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist, a designation awarded by the National Association of Home Builders. As a CAPS-certified designer and a licensed Occupational Therapist, Christie brings a unique clinical perspective to universal design, creating beautiful spaces that are safe, accessible, and adaptable for every stage of life. Whether you're planning for the future or designing for current needs, this expertise ensures your home supports you for years to come. Explore our dedicated aging-in-place design services.
When should I bring in an interior designer for a new build or renovation?
As early as possible. Ideally, we join the project before architectural plans are finalized so we can influence the layout, spatial flow, and material selections from the start. Early involvement prevents costly change orders, ensures design continuity between architecture and interiors, and ultimately saves time and money. If you're already in progress, we can still step in,but the sooner, the better.
